Osama El Baz

Political Adviser to the President

Born in Sinbelawane, Dakahlia Governorate, in 1931.Education:

Studied Law at Cairo University and Harvard Law School, USA.

Positions held:

  • District Attorney for Northern Cairo (Eastern Cairo district now), where he served for 10 years
  • Joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Chef de Cabinet of the Foreign Minister.
  • Chef de Cabinet of the Vice-President.
  • Political Adviser to the President till present.

In November 1977, he accompanied President Anwar Al Sadat to Jerusalem and since then he participated in the ensuing talks that dealt with achieving comprehensive peace between Arabs and Israelis as well as the negotiations culminating in the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978, which led to the Peace Agreement between the two countries in March 1979.

Contributed to the talks between the Palestinian Liberation Organization and Israel since the Madrid Peace Conference in 1991 including the Oslo Declaration of Principles (September 1999), Gaza and Jericho Agreement (May 1994) the Interim Agreement (Washington 1995) and followed closely the Wye River talks (USA 1998) and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Barak (Sharm El Sheikh 1999).
