Yosef A. Maiman
Yosef A. Maiman is President and CEO of the Merhav Group of Companies. Established in 1975, Merhav is the largest international project development company based in Israel with over $ 3 billion worth of projects under implementation.
The Merhav Group is involved in major project development and holdings in the fields of energy, petrochemicals, infrastructure, water treatment, telecommunications, agriculture, dairy, agribusiness, electronics and financial services in the Middle East, South America, Central America, Europe, The Commonwealth of Independent States and Africa .
Merhav has developed a successful record in project development, management, contracting and finance. Projects range from the landmark US$ 1.2 billion MIDOR Israeli-Egyptian joint petroleum refinery where Merhav served as co-developer and held 20% of the equity, the development in Central Asia of gas infrastructure, oil refinery and petrochemical industry projects in excess of US$ 1.6 billion, to major holdings in Venezuelan cable television.
In line with its commitment to cross-border business development in the Middle East, Merhav holds 30% equity in the development of the East Mediterranean Gas (EMG) pipeline that is to deliver Egyptian natural gas to Israel, Turkey and, possibly, adjacent markets.
The Merhav Group has further acquired a controlling interest (58%) of the publicly traded (NASDAQ) U.S. Corporation AMPAL, which holds most of its assets in Israel . This acquisition has broadened Mr. Maiman's investment portfolio and is to serve as a platform for expanded activity in Israel and elsewhere.
Mr. Maiman serves as Chairman of the Board of Channel Ten, Israel 's (recently launched) second commercial television channel, where Merhav holds 51% of the equity.
Yosef Maiman was born in Europe in February 1946, grew up in Peru , attended university in the United States , and became a citizen and resident of Israel in 1971. He holds a Masters degree in economics from Cornell University in New York and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Texas at El Paso . His job experience prior to the founding of the Merhav
Group included the Central Reserve Bank of Peru , Standard Oil of New Jersey, Citibank, Diners Club and Israel 's Sonol.
Mr. Maiman, an Israeli citizen, plays a leading role in the Israeli public life as a private citizen, working with Israeli government leaders on business strategy, cross-border business development and international economic issues. He has lectured at the Israeli National Security College, Israeli Chamber of Commerce, various business forums, universities, including delegations from neighboring countries, in the Peres Center, the US, and worldwide.
Maiman is a Board Member of the Middle East Task Force of the New York Council on Foreign Relations. He is Honorary Consul to Israel of Peru as well as Consul of Turkmenistan. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Tel Aviv University , Chairman of the Israeli Board of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University , a Member of the Board of Governors of Ben Gurion University, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Policy Institute for Counter Terrorism
